The invaders were outnumbered but well-armed; the natives were equipped only with wooden clubs and a large piece of very strong garlic. Military historians consider the routing of the native militia as a key moment in the conquering of the eastlands.

Irondune is a frontier outpost in Duncanthrax the Bellicose's campaign.

A comment at the end of the narration indicates that the story is considered to be quite fanciful; no other chronicles of the age mention the Terror in any form.
